    Chen Kin-He of Taichung knifed his live-girlfriend and her two sons to death because he suspected that she has had an affair with someone else. The victim had reported her fear of domestic violence to the county government but the request was ignored because they were not legally married. ¡]1998.1.5, China Times.¡^

    Wong Bai-Cong of Jiayi attacked his wife, after a long history of abusing his wife due to suspicion of infidelity, was killed by her wife during the struggle.(1998.1.14, United Daily News.)

    Yyan Wei-Chung of Kaohsiung, incensed by his girlfriend's request to break up, strangled her to death and later committed suicide by throwing himself in front of a running train.(1998.1.13, United Daily News.)

    The first two weeks of 1998 were filled of tragic case of domestic violence which would and could have been prevented, should the social work and police networks had better collaborative operation. More efforts should be put into preventive measures in order to curb the alarming increase of domestic violence in the country.

  2. Taipei Prostitutes vs. American Gigolo

    The Legal Prostitutes' Association brought a petition to American film star, Richard Gear, hoping that the star of movies such as "American Gigolo" and "Pretty Woman" would support legal prostitution. However, Gear left without making any comment.(1998.1.12, China Times.)
